Year 11 to Year 12 Transition

These pages will provide you with essential information about your transition from GCSE’s in year 11 to Sixth Form.  We are here to support you every step along the way to ensure you settle in and make the best start to your time with us at Richard Rose Sixth Form.  Whether you are joining us directly from lower school or coming to us from somewhere else, the step up to studying A levels is a daunting one, and being well prepared to make a strong start is the first step in the process.

On behalf of all the Sixth Form Team and the whole school community, we look forward to welcoming you properly soon.

If you have any questions prior to starting in September, feel free to email a member of the Sixth Form leadership team:

Thank you for joining us for our induction day on Thursday 6th July 2023.  It was wonderful to see you all and we hope you enjoyed your day.

Please find the information from the day in the Induction Documents section below for your reference.

Please ensure you have the right clothing ready for September.  The Dress Code is below in the Induction Documents download.

Additionally ensure you have folders, stationary and dividers for each of your subjects.

Where possible research revision guides and courses texts that will help you in your learning journey.

Should you require financial assistance, please email a member of the sixth form team and we will look at how we can support you.

Summer work is a prerequisite for the course and has been distributed in person by subject teachers on the induction day.  You must complete your tasks over the summer and bring them to your first lesson in September, this will form part of the early review process.

Copies of the summer tasks are also available below in the Induction Documents.

School will be open for you to collect your results from 8am

We will need you to complete a ‘destinations’ form, confirming details of your next steps (RRCA Sixth form, an alternative school sixth form, college, apprenticeship etc)

There will be careers desk where advice and guidance will be provided.

Whilst we have already interviewed Y11 who have applied to RRCA sixth form, we will complete an exit interview with all students, during which the destinations form will be completed.

Following the above, all applicants to RRCA sixth form will meet individually with the sixth form team to confirm their place and finalise arrangements for September.

If you cannot attend results day, but would like someone else to collect your results, you must put this in writing, stating the person collecting the results on your behalf and their contact details.

Your first day will be Tuesday 5th September, please arrive promptly for 8:25am

In the first week we will have further transition assemblies, time with your new tutor group and an assembly from an external provider.

There will be a Y12 welcome Evening for both parents and students in September. At this event we will detail how parents can support students following a level 3 study programme, opportunities and expectations.

At the end of September all teachers will complete an early progress check with a simple grading system to ensure all Y12 students have settled well and made a successful transition to Level 3 study

As discussed on induction day year 12 will have the opportunity to apply to undertake the Extended Project Qualification alongside their chosen level 3 qualifications.

EPQ is an A-level standard standalone qualification designed to extend and develop your abilities beyond the A-level syllabus and prepare for university and future careers.

Give it some thought, then email Miss Snape confirming you are interested in completing an EPQ and broadly what you propose your topic of interest and EPQ title may be.

Miss Snape will contact you in the new term with more details and a deadline to complete a formal application for the EPQ which will be around 4x weeks into the new term

If you are interested but want more information, email Miss Snape caroline.snape@rrca.org.uk

You can also look at the information in the EPQ folder below in the Induction Documents.
