Who should young people trust for mental health advice online? ๐Ÿค” From TikTok to Instagram, children and young people are turning to social media for support, but not all content is accurate or helpful. This wake.up.wednesday flyer explores how mental health misinformation can mislead young people and shares practical ways adults can help them spot unreliable advice and build healthy, informed understanding. For more information on online safety and lots of handy guides around online safety, head to the wake.up.wednesday page. Our alumni of the month for January is ๐—๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ป๐˜†. Jasmin is currently a primary school teacher at a school in London, where she uses her skillset of being organised, responsible and adaptable to meet new challenges and teach different lessons daily. She currently teaches Year 6 students, preparing them for their SATS and leading the Maths curriculum in school โ€“ she is a great help to her students and teachers, helping them manage stressful exam periods. During her time at school, Jasmin achieved high grades in her GCSEโ€™s, leading her to pursue the subjects Maths, Art and History in A level. Following school, she completed a primary education degree at the University of Cumbria, doing exciting placements in locations like London. Jasmin demonstrated resilience throughout her time at Central, especially when facing difficulties in Maths during her A levels. She found the subject was very different to GCSE, impacting her experience at 6th form. Despite this, through her resilience and the support from Mrs Elsworth and Mr Townsend, she gained the confidence to continue her A Levels, helping her follow her career path. She reflects on her time at Central, quoting that the teachers Mrs Bulman, Mrs Barnsley and Mrs Stott impacted her experience at school greatly. Jasmin states they instilled her with a self-belief that helped her to find her voice, making her contribute and express her opinions during lessons, something she was too shy to do in Year 7. Additionally, she uses the knowledge taught by her teachers from Central in her everyday teaching style today. A huge thank you to ๐—๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป for sharing her story with us and we wish her all the best in her future career.
