Information for Applicants

It is a pleasure for us to introduce our Sixth Form to you. We are a thriving community of over 100 students supported by a dedicated Sixth Form team. Our students come to us both from our own Year 11 and from a variety of other schools in the area. The Sixth Form team is here to support each individual student at a crucial time in their life, one that is both exciting and challenging. Our aim is to equip our students to take up their place in the world, whatever that may be, by providing an education rooted in Central Academy values and United Learning principles.

We offer a wide range of Level 3 courses that enable our students to progress to university, higher apprenticeships or employment. We seek to develop the attitudes and skills essential to success in 21st Century Britain through our teaching, enrichment opportunities and pastoral care, and by the information, advice and guidance we provide. Above all we aim to create opportunities for all our students to succeed in whatever they do. We look forward to celebrating the success of every student.

Our aim is to provide an excellent education for all our students; an education which brings out the best in all of them and prepares them for success in life. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with the core knowledge they need for success in education and later life, to maximise their cognitive development, to develop the whole person and the talents of the individual and to allow all children to become active and economically self-sufficient citizens.

By teaching our curriculum well we develop pupils’ cultural capital: “the essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.” (DFE National Curriculum, 2014) Preparing students for their next steps in life, is the basis of our curriculum.

Consider – Academic excellence is at the heart of what we do. We offer over 25 different subject choices which allow students to take up the widest possible range of university or career options.

Choose – Choose 3 A-levels, 3 vocational options or a mixture of both and for competitive University pathways, choose 4 A-levels.

Extend – The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an extra option which gives another dimension to your profile and is highly prized by employers.

Located predominantly on the top floor of Richard Rose Central, the Sixth Form Centre provides students with a a modern, spacious environment that will enhance their learning experience. The high ceilings, large windows and spacious rooms allow the building to be filled with natural light which contributes to a positive sense of well-being.
The Sixth Form cafeteria provides high quality food and the bright common room area allows students to relax in a comfortable space. The flexible learning pod caters for students that want to get on with group work, whilst the private study room provides a silent place for academic study. Students have access to Chromebooks in all areas to support digital learning.
The building is also home to the Sixth Form Team, a group of dedicated staff that are committed to helping the students here fulfil their academic potential. We hope that you will take the opportunity to come and visit us and choose Richard Rose Sixth Form as the place to continue your path to academic success.

At RRSF we take the welfare and academic progress of our Sixth Form students very seriously.  The individual care which we can provide is one of the key reasons why students thrive and succeed here.  Students are known personally - they are never 'one of the crowd’.  Monitoring your welfare will be your Form Tutor, working with Mr Hamilton (Yr12) or Mrs Sullivan (Yr13). These members of staff will decide when an intervention needs to be made to help a student achieve their personal best.  They will also be on the look out for any welfare issues, or barriers to learning.  Supported by the whole school’s Safeguarding Team, there is always someone who can be called on to help.
